Encouragement in Yola
September 2013
Despite heavy rain that kept many people away, our pastors and action committee meeting in Yola was encouraging for all who attended.
Yola coordinator James Usman and his team had planned for 40 people though only 20 were able to travel to the day-long meeting.
At the moment it is the rainy season in Nigeria. When the rain is particularly heavy umbrellas are useless and even car drivers have to park up until the rain abates.
During the meeting the Grace & Light team shared new information about HIV in Nigeria and Africa, while church members gave feedback on what is happening in their life sharing groups and in the lives of people who have tested positive, as well as sharing the issues they are facing.
“We try and hold these meetings at least annually for the action committees who oversee life sharing groups in their churches and for their pastors,” explained international coordinator Tassie Ghata.
“it is a chance for us to offer support and encouragement, and for the key people in churches to listen to and share with each other.
“One pastor spoke about how helpful it has been for him having someone checking on his life and how he encourages others to join. He said everyone should find and join a life sharing group.”
James and Tassie were also encouraged by people at the meeting who said they want to help Grace & Light financially and will begin giving regularly by standing order.
