Members of a church with dwindling numbers were delighted the Jos team were able to visit them, as they are in one of the Muslim areas in central Jos.
“They were delighted our volunteers were willing to come into a Muslim area,” said international coordinator Tassie Ghata. “We have visited this church six times and each time they have fewer members.
“Jos is now divided between Muslims and Christians, its not mixed like before. Many churches in Muslim areas have closed so this church is doing well to still be serving Christians in the area.”
Six teams were active during April – Bauchi, Gombe, Jos, Lafia, Obudu and Yola. Between them they visited nine churches and the LCCN Deaf Centre for HCT testing.
In total they tested 720 people of whom five were HIV positive. Eighty-one percent chose to be open about their status and join a life sharing group. In two of the churches everyone who tested chose to join Grace & Light and share their status with group members.
Additionally 63 people became Christians and another 97 people rededicated their lives to Jesus Christ.
Churches visited were ECWA Wuntin Dada Hausa who invited the Bauchi team back the following week, EYN Sangere Bode, Baptist Boggari, Mountain of Fire Church, ECWA Gospel Gombe, COCIN Ishong-Agwom, ERCC Tudun Kauri, ECWA Katako and Anglican Church Owong.
