Community leaders are being invited to debate social righteousness and begin igniting positive change in Nigerian society.
Grace & Light’s Social Righteousness Conference is the first of its kind in Nigeria, bringing together leaders from churches, charities, business and the medical profession to discuss social righteousness in practice.
It is designed for leaders who wish to see positive change in Nigerian society, especially in the areas of corruption, work, poverty and gender issues. They will be learning from each other as well as hearing about Grace & Light’s work in the area over the last four years.
The conference will include facilitated sessions in which leaders brainstorm the issues of corruption and bribery they face in their workplaces and how these might be handled in ways that honour God.
By way of example, the invite includes the true story of a church member who wanted to train for ministry. He confessed to his pastor that he cheated to get an academic qualification a few years earlier. He knew it was wrong and has a bad conscience, but the fake results will be really useful in ministry. The pastor tells him he has confessed his sin and so is forgiven, he can go ahead and enter the seminary using his fake qualification.
“We want to combat this sort of insidious corruption in our society. The conference is for leaders from different walks of life who want to put God first. It is a unique opportunity to band together with others like themselves to make a stand for righteousness in all situations and help their communities live in God’s righteousness daily,” explained international coordinator Tassie Ghata.
Two speakers are travelling from the UK. Peter King, a leading European mergers and acquisitions lawyer and Andrew Baughen, vicar at Saint James Clerkenwell.
The conference runs in Jos from 19-21 September. If you would like to join, please contact Tassie Ghata in Nigeria at info@graceandlight.org or +234 (0)803 604 0438 and in the UK Ed Greening at ed.greening@graceandlight.org or +44 (0)1225 719 012.
Please pray for our conference and its organisers:
- Wisdom in planning and timetabling the agenda
- Church leaders and other invited guests will attend
- Speakers will lead meaningful discussions during the two days
- The conference will have a lasting impact on Nigerian churches and businesses.
