Four schools are piloting a new way of helping secondary school students understand how to behave in ways that honour God based on a novel and workbook.
Teachers from the four schools in Jos and Mangu attended a one-day workshop on 31 August, which Grace & Light ran in partnership with the South African charity Voice in Africa.
Voice in Africa has developed the workbook and novel, Witney’s Kiss, which seeks to expose students to the problems they can get into when they let their emotions control them.
During the workshop the teachers read the novel together and discussed how they can use it to support their students as part of Grace & Light’s schools’ ministry.
“We shared our expectations of them as teachers and they gave feedback on how to make the workshop better and persuade other teachers to attend,” explained Tassie Ghata.
One teacher said: “Being here has been so educative for me.” Another said: “It is not a mistake that I am a teacher, we have a great role to play in helping young people develop.”
The pilot programme will run in these schools using funds raised during the charity walk in the UK back in June. Grace & Light hopes to extend the programme to other schools in 2018.
